Burying Money in Holes (AKA Operation: Landscape 2006-2007) : In preparation for sale of the house, I needed to install landscaping. So I figured I'd do all the things that need to be planted in the fall, and I would do the flagstones and bricks in the spring. Being that this is a significant undertaking I called up the 'rents and we spent a lovely Saturday in early September together doing a good amount of the installation. After cutting the sod and installing the large items, we were tired, so we left the small things for another day. A day in which the ex-wife would assist me (since she still has a small stake in the house). So a little over a week later, the ex and I installed all the small items except the hostas. We realized that the hydrangea and the three boxwood green velvets were too close to the house and would need to be replanted, and since the hostas were planted in relation to them, it didn't pay to plant those until the large items were replanted. So another week passed, and we finally finished it all including replanting the things that needed to be replanted and finally putting in the hostas. The first picture in this gallery is the "before" picture. The last picture will be the final "after" picture which will be sometime next spring (2007), at which point I will update the gallery (plus you can see how everything looks after a fall and winter). All materials purchased from Stonegate Landscape and Nursery in Algonquin, Illinois.

Wolve's Game and Wedding on Ice : Saturday, February 25, 2006. A wolves game and a wedding which was held between periods 1 and 2. This was an event I attended through the Chicago chapter of meetin.org. The host of the event is friends with the bride and groom. The official news blurb from the Chicago Wolves website was as follows: Wedding Bells to Ring at Wolves Game on Feb. 25 02/13/2006 The Chicago Wolves will host an on-ice wedding during the first intermission when the team battles the Cleveland Barons at the Allstate Arena on Sat., Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. Holly Braun, a Wolves season-ticket holder since 2001, will marry Vladimir Len, an American Hockey League off-ice official and former team season-ticket holder, in the eight-minute ceremony. Wolves season-ticket holder “Tattoo” Ron Gac (GACK), an ordained minister and tattoo artist, will make the bond official. The Wolves will provide the newlyweds with flowers and a wedding cake, courtesy of Jewel-Osco, and a night’s stay in the Presidential Suite at the Wyndham Hotel in Rosemont. Braun and Len – a Chicago native – met at the 1999 International Hockey League All-Star Game in Cincinnati and have been attending Wolves games together for five seasons.

ASP 2004: Hancock County, TN : July 24-31, 2004, my (now ex-)wife Meredith and I were adult leaders for the summer mission trip of the youth group at First United Methodist Church of Evanston. The mission trip was part of the Appalachian Service Project (http://www.asphome.org/), a nonprofit organization affiliated with the Methodist Church that builds and repairs homes for low-income families in the Central Appalachia area. It was the second time on ASP for both of us--I had gone last year, and my wife the year before. The pictures in this gallery were taken during this trip. This was my first real extensive use of my digital camera. The pictures are at a lower resolution because I wasn't sure how many pictures I was going to take, and didn't want to fill up my memory card. (128MB, but that can disappear real fast. Yeah, I need another. It's hard to have too many.)There were around 40 of us total from the church. Enjoy.
